Day 5: Pura Track Speed Camp 2025

Friday, 24th January 2025

We were back on the track today for our final track session of the camp.

The ladies had a later start (2 pm), as there was an event taking place on the track during the morning (so I used the morning to get in a gym session of my own).

Before getting into drills, the ladies always go through their self-management bits; however, that seemed to take forever today, as we had one incident after the other! Dee managed to cut her finger, whilst Nancy needed to tape up her foot.

Altogether, that part of the session took around an hour, so we didn’t get into drills until around 3 pm!

I have different sets of drills that I use, and today we did “Drills 3”. Considering it was both Dee and Nancy’s first time completing the full sequence, they both did well.

After the drills, we did some other drills over hurdles. We found that the hurdles at this track, at their lowest height, were higher than those we use back home, so they were just too high for Nancy. Thankfully, there were also some lower hurdles available, so we used these lower hurdles for Nancy instead.

Following the hurdle drills, we did some plyometrics, some of which included bounds over the hurdles. Both ladies experienced some physical and mental challenges during this portion of the session, but they both were able to overcome (and support each other), which was inspiring to see.

The main running element of the session today focused on upright, max velocity running. The ladies did some flying 10m runs using the freelap, followed by a plank circuit to finish. Overall, it was a great session from them both.

To finish the day, we had a group dinner at Nancy’s hotel, and we ate, talked, and laughed to our hearts’ content!
